What is Reiki?

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese works - Rei and Ki

Rei means 'universal' and refers also to the spiritual dimension and the soul.

Ki means 'the life force' and means the same as Qi, Prana, Mana. This is the nonphysical energy that animates all living things.

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of life force energy to improve their health and enhance the quality of their life.

Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit and creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and well-being.

What happens in a session?

In a Reiki session the client lays in a relaxed state on a massage table. The practitioner places her hands either lightly on top of or near the client's body in a series of hand positions, usually starting at the head and ending with the feet. The client remains fully clothed throughout the treatment.

Reiki energy flows through the practitioner's body and out their hands, into the client.

Reiki for most people is a very relaxing experience. Some report of experiencing heat or cold over certain parts of their bodies. Others drift off to sleep. At the end of the treatment, the person can feel refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.
